Roads Academy
At the intersection of Hinson's Ford Road and Lee Highway is the
site of Roads Academy, a school that was established by Edmund Roads,
a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy.
Mr. Roads built a three-story building on this site, with classrooms
on the first floor, the professor's apartment on the second floor,
and dormitory rooms on the third floor. The school was in operation
for more than five years. Mr. Roads later became a Methodist preacher.
His mother was Arbelia Amiss. The house was also owned by Ralph
Rowzie, It is still in the Rowzie family. The present house, called
Academy Place, was built from materials salvaged from Roads Academy
